Turning a Product Launch into a Story People Believed In

When the team behind ScentXpresso approached us, they weren't simply launching another product.

They had created a new way to experience aromatherapy in the shower — combining smart technology, wellness, and everyday ritual into a single device designed to help people relax, refocus, and reconnect with themselves.

Their challenge wasn't just explaining what the product did. It was helping people understand why it mattered.

Our role was to create the hero Kickstarter campaign film that would introduce ScentXpresso to the world, communicate its features and benefits, and build the trust needed to turn viewers into backers.

The Brief

ScentXpresso needed a flagship campaign film for their Kickstarter launch that would:

  • Introduce a completely new product category

  • Clearly demonstrate key features and functionality

  • Communicate the emotional benefits of the product

  • Build credibility and trust with potential backers

  • Support the wider campaign across web, social media, and advertising

For many Kickstarter campaigns, the launch video becomes the digital shop front.

It's often the first thing potential backers watch before deciding whether to invest in a product they've never physically seen or experienced.

Finding The Story

Before a single frame was captured, we worked closely with the ScentXpresso team to uncover the deeper story behind the product. Together, we explored:

  • The frustrations and pain points of their audience

  • The emotional benefits of aromatherapy and wellness

  • The behaviours and routines of potential customers

  • How to translate product features into meaningful user benefits

Rather than focusing solely on specifications, we built a narrative around the feeling ScentXpresso creates.

The result was a campaign centred on transformation — turning an everyday shower into a moment of calm, focus, and self-care.

This story-first approach informed everything from scripting and shot selection to pacing and visual style.

Production

The campaign was filmed over five days across multiple locations.

Our objective was to create a blend of lifestyle storytelling and product-focused visuals that felt authentic, aspirational, and engaging.

Working closely with the founders throughout production, we developed a comprehensive shot list designed to balance:

  • Product demonstrations

  • Lifestyle moments

  • User experiences

  • Founder messaging

  • Kickstarter campaign requirements

Every scene was crafted to help audiences visualise how ScentXpresso would fit naturally into their everyday lives.

Post Production

Following the shoot, we spent approximately one month crafting the final campaign assets.

Our post-production workflow included assembly edits, story development and refinement, colour correction and grading, sound design, visual effects, motion graphics and multi-platform optimisation.

Alongside the Kickstarter hero film, we also created a range of supporting assets designed for social media advertising and digital marketing campaigns.

Every deliverable was tailored to maximise engagement across multiple platforms and audience touch-points.

The campaign launched on Kickstarter in June 2025.

Within just 22 minutes, ScentXpresso reached 100% of its funding target.

Over the course of the campaign, the project attracted more than 500 backers and raised over £117,000 — achieving almost four times its original funding goal. ScentXpresso was also selected as a Kickstarter “Project We Love”.

While many factors contribute to a successful crowdfunding campaign, the launch film played a central role in communicating the product's value, building trust, and helping potential customers feel confident enough to back the project.

The Results

Beyond Kickstarter

Our involvement didn't end when the campaign was funded.

Since launch, we've continued working closely with the ScentXpresso team to create content supporting the next stage of the brand's growth.

This has included:

  • Website content

  • Product videos

  • Social media campaigns

  • Advertising creatives

  • Brand storytelling assets

By maintaining a consistent visual identity and narrative across every touchpoint, we've helped ScentXpresso continue building momentum long after the Kickstarter campaign concluded.
