Creating a Martial Arts Championship Worth Watching

Unity World Games is one of the UK's leading international martial arts tournaments, bringing together athletes from across the globe to compete at the highest level.

Since 2015, we've worked alongside the Unity World Games team as their official video production partner, capturing the championship year after year and helping showcase the event to competitors, spectators, and future participants around the world.

As the tournament continued to grow, the team wanted a promotional film that reflected the scale, prestige, and emotion of the championship itself.

Rather than creating a traditional event advert, the goal was to craft something that felt bigger.

Something that captured not only the competition, but the dedication, sacrifice, and ambition behind every athlete stepping onto the mat.

The Brief

The objective was to create a flagship promotional trailer that would help elevate the event's profile and attract both competitors and spectators.

The film needed to showcase:

  • The scale of the championship

  • The calibre of athletes competing

  • The atmosphere and energy of the event

  • The prestige of representing your country on an international stage

More importantly, it needed to communicate what makes Unity World Games special.

The final film would become a key marketing asset, helping position the tournament as a destination event for martial artists worldwide.

Finding The Story

While martial arts is often viewed through the lens of competition, we quickly realised the strongest story wasn't about winning. It was about the journey.

Behind every competitor is years of training, sacrifice, discipline, and commitment. To capture that, we built the film around the emotions that athletes experience before stepping into competition.

we incorporated athlete interviews and voiceover excerpts to create a deeper emotional connection with the audience.

This approach transformed the film from a traditional event promotion into something that felt closer to a cinematic sports documentary.

By focusing on the people behind the performances, we were able to showcase not only the event itself, but what it truly means to compete on the world stage.

Production

As the event's long-standing video production partner, we had access to an extensive archive of competition footage, athlete interviews, emotional moments, and behind-the-scenes storytelling gathered throughout years of coverage.

This allowed us to create a campaign that felt authentic and representative of the real athlete experience.

Throughout our ongoing partnership with Unity World Games, we've documented:

  • Team celebrations

  • Crowd reactions

Our goal has always been to go beyond simply documenting the event.

We aim to create content that allows audiences to feel what it's like to stand on that competition floor.

Post Production

Following the shoot, we spent approximately one month crafting the final campaign assets.

Our post-production workflow included assembly edits, story development and refinement, colour correction and grading, sound design, visual effects, motion graphics and multi-platform optimisation.

Alongside the Kickstarter hero film, we also created a range of supporting assets designed for social media advertising and digital marketing campaigns.

Every deliverable was tailored to maximise engagement across multiple platforms and audience touch-points.

The campaign launched on Kickstarter in June 2025.

Within just 22 minutes, ScentXpresso reached 100% of its funding target.

Over the course of the campaign, the project attracted more than 500 backers and raised over £117,000 — achieving almost four times its original funding goal. ScentXpresso was also selected as a Kickstarter “Project We Love”.

While many factors contribute to a successful crowdfunding campaign, the launch film played a central role in communicating the product's value, building trust, and helping potential customers feel confident enough to back the project.

The Results

Beyond Kickstarter

Our involvement didn't end when the campaign was funded.

Since launch, we've continued working closely with the ScentXpresso team to create content supporting the next stage of the brand's growth.

This has included:

  • Website content

  • Product videos

  • Social media campaigns

  • Advertising creatives

  • Brand storytelling assets

By maintaining a consistent visual identity and narrative across every touchpoint, we've helped ScentXpresso continue building momentum long after the Kickstarter campaign concluded.
